Guide lines for preparation of research proposals

Purpose of the proposal

Learning Objectives

  • Be able to identify a good research problem and a title to convince your audience (organization, client) that there is a researchable issue
  • The audience should be convinced that the research is possible within the resources and the time available.

      Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the research process

•      Be able to critically review the literature in an area of the research

•      Be abide by the ethical research process 

  • Identify and utilize appropriate research methodology to collect data, analyze the collected data, and to draw conclusions related to the research problem
  • Be able to present research findings and conclusions in an appropriate scientific manner.

Content of the research proposal

1.Title Slide

  • SLICM Logo, 
  • Title of the research,
  • Study program and the year
  • Student name and the student number.

2 Background Slide

  • Justification of the research problem with evidence − Statistics, literature & preliminary study.

                  This should tell the reader why you feel the research that you are planning is worth the effort.

  • Analyze the company, the industry, Competitors, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. 

  • Use PESTEEL Analysis for understanding environmental factors affecting the macro environment. 

  • Use graphs to elaborate the situation.

3.Research question/(s)and objectives slide

    This should explain the issue/(s) and should clarify what it is that your research seeks to achieve.

    Primary objective and the secondary objectives should be stated separately

4. Research Methodology slide

  This should include the following 

  1. Decide the conceptual model and operationalization
  2. Decide the research design, E.g. “Survey”
  3. Identifying the population, Sample size, Sampling frame, Sampling technique
  4. Data collection method
  5. How the questionnaire will be distributed?
  6. Data analysis techniques 

5.  Time Plan slide

       Use Gantt Chart to indicate your activities and time allocations.

6. Referencing slide

     Use Harvard Referencing
